IRON MOUNTAIN — The Dickinson Area Community Foundation and its two affiliates, the Crystal Falls Area Community Foundation and the Norway Area Community Foundation, will provide up to $559,690 in grants and scholarships for 2023.
Up to $262,455 in scholarships will be awarded in 2023 through these schools: Iron Mountain, Kingsford, Norway, North Dickinson County, and Crystal Falls, as well as Niagara, Florence County, and Pembine High Schools in Wisconsin. Senior graduates should check with their scholarship coordinator for applications and criteria for DACF scholarships offered at their school. Applications and criteria will be available on the DACF website from January.
Agency and Area of Interest grants in the amount of $304,171 will be disbursed in 2023. Grant application forms for Area of Interest grants are now available on the DACF website at address www.dickinsonareacf.org. Those interested in applying for any of the grant funds listed here may contact the Dickinson Area Community Foundation office at 906-774-3131 for more information or to request the appropriate application forms and instructions.
The deadline for submitting applications to the Foundation is October 21. Grant funds will be awarded in the first quarter of 2023.
Areas of Interest Program Grants will receive $44,054 in the 2023 grant cycle. Grants are available from the following funds for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and affiliated agencies or organizations to non-taxable organizations (i.e. schools, churches, cities) located or serving persons in the Dickinson County area and surrounding areas of Michigan and Wisconsin:
– The Civic Improvement Fund has $3,784 for collaborative projects that benefit or serve the communities of Iron Mountain, Kingsford and Breitung Township. The Grants Committee includes one representative from each community.
— The Community Health Fund has $4,328 for grants for programs related to the health of young and old (i.e. programs designed to reduce behavioral risk factors, such as addiction, alcohol/excessive alcohol consumption, smoking and depression; and to encourage healthy activities).
— The Environmental Fund has $2,270 for projects that improve or create methods for enhancing the region’s natural resources.
— The Fine Arts Fund has $2,440 for projects in the theatrical, musical and performing arts.
— The Health Care Fund has $2,193 for grants for those involved in prevention, primary physical health care, education and other health-related services.
— The Homelessness Prevention Fund has $3 003 for programs that help people in need prevent the loss of their housing.
— The Hunger Fund has $2,400 for organizations that provide food to people in need.
— The Iron Mountain/Kingsford Kellogg Youth Fund has $23,636 for grants to applicants in the Iron Mountain/Kingsford area through the Iron Mountain/Kingsford Youth Advisory Committee for Youth Programs.
The Norway Area Community Foundation and the Crystal Falls Community Foundation will fund an additional $23,641 in grants in areas of focus for 2023. Nonprofit organizations and agencies in the Norway and Crystal Falls communities can apply for grants in these areas of interest:
— The Norway Affiliate Fund has $3,603 for grants for programs in the Norwegian community.
– The Norway Kellogg Youth Fund has $3,340 available for applicants in the Norway region through the Norway Youth Advisory Committee for youth-related programs.
— The Forest Park Youth Fund has $15,654 in funds that can be awarded by the Forest Park Youth Advisory Committee for youth programs in the Crystal Falls area.
— The Crystal Falls Community Project Fund has $1,044 for community projects in the Crystal Falls area.
There is $226,175 in grant funds to go to these Dickinson area nonprofits: Adult Basic Education, Almost Home Animal Shelter, Bay Cliff Health Camp, Senior Center from Crystal Lake, Dickinson County Bike Trail (DTN), Dickinson County Cancer Ready. Closet, Dickinson Conservation District, Northern Lights YMCA, Menominee Range Historical Foundation, Northwoods Air Lifeline, Friends of the Braumart, Friends of Camp Batawagama, NorthPointe, Light at the Inn, Champion Romney (Dickinson-Iron Community Services Agency), Dickinson County Hospital Administration Fund, Dickinson County Hospital Benevolent Fund, Dickinson County Hospital Community Fund, Dickinson County Hospital Capital Fund, Dickinson County Hospital Newberg Living Endowment Fund, Visual Arts Fund (Association of Student Artists), DACF Administrative Fund, DACF Unrestricted Fund and the Salvation Army who have established agency funds with the foundation.
In addition, $3,364 in agency grant funds will be given to these Crystal Falls-area nonprofits that have established agency funds with the foundation: Harbor House (Crystal Falls Koob Historic Fund) and the Contemporary Center (Crystal Falls Koob Youth Fund) .
Income from individual organizations’ agency funds is disbursed annually to the designated agency or organization in accordance with the Dickinson Area Community Foundation’s Expense Policy.
