Taylor Swift’s songwriting is reportedly being featured as the subject of a new literature class at American University this fall.
According page 6the Grammy winner’s songs will be studied at the University of Texas alongside literary giants such as Chaucer, Shakespeare, Coleridge, Keats and Sylvia Plath, reported via the university’s website.
The outlet mentioned that the exciting course titled Literary Contests and Contexts: The Taylor Swift Songbook will include preliminary texts of albums of musicians Red and Lover.
According to the university’s website, the course “will use the songwriting of pop music icon Taylor Swift to introduce literary critical reading and research methods – foundational skills for work in English literature. and other disciplines of the humanities”.
“Swift is a smart and talented composer, and her songwriting skills are what made me focus on her,” said English teacher Dr. Elizabeth Scala, who will be teaching the course this year.
Interestingly, New York University also offered a Swift course based on her works and music.
Meanwhile, the singer was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts by NYU earlier this year.
