Miami, October 11, 2022 – The Art and Design Museum (MOAD) to Miami Dade College (MDC) presents Estuary [Pavilion for MOAD]a work of Cuban-American artist Rafael Domenechopening on Friday November 18, during the 39e Miami Book Fair at the MDC Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. The exhibit will remain on view through January 2023. Free and open to the public with admission to the Miami Book Fair.

Estuary is the second iteration of MOAD Projects, an exhibition series that features work by Miami-based artists, including distinguished alumni and faculty of MDC and New World School of the Arts. The project is organized by Isabela Villanueva.

Commissioned by MOAD, it functions on many levels – as a public sculpture, a reflection on the written word, a platform for live performances and public gatherings, and a meditative environment. It is made from common building materials, such as aluminum framing, and can be transformed into a variety of distinct spatial configurations. Large construction mesh panels or “pages” feature laser cut text that will change throughout the duration of the project.

The Estuary will be set up in Kyriakides Square at the Wolfson Campus, located between Buildings 1 and 2. It will then travel to other MDC campuses. MOAD will create programming for each venue’s pavilion.

Domenech received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the New World School of the Arts. Her artistic practice explores notions of architecture and urban design, public gathering spaces and publishing methodologies.
