The University of Texas will offer a Taylor Swift course this fall

AUSTIN— Calling all Taylor Swift fans: Your wildest dreams are about to come true. The University of Texas at Austin is offering a course on Taylor Swift in August, and we hope there’s still an empty space on the list.

Elizabeth Scala, an English professor at the University of Texas, will teach a course on the Taylor Swift songbook to freshmen in the liberal arts honors program this fall.

The new course is called “Literary Competitions and Contexts – The Taylor Swift Songbook” and will provide students with an “introduction to literary studies and research methods” using Taylor Swift’s songwriting, according to a Facebook post by the UT English Department.

“Let’s turn this Easter egg hunt and reading into detail for academic purposes!” the English department said in a post.

It’s been quite a year for Swift in academia, as she delivered a commencement address and received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree. at New York University in May. She has also an NYU class taught by Rolling Stone’s Brittany Spanos devoted to the study of rhyme and reason of the singer.

The class isn’t the only way Central Texas students can study their favorite artist this academic year. A Professor at Texas State University will teach a course on Harry Styles in the spring of 2023 for the university’s Honors College.
