Triton Kids returns for another semester of inspiring young singers.
Triton Kids is an auditioning choir of grades 3 through 8 from Fort Dodge and surrounding areas.
It was founded in 2018 by Iowa Central Community College Director of Vocal Music, Will Lopes, as an opportunity to connect Iowa Central Community College to the community. Lopes is the general artistic director and conductor of the program.
“Triton kids is a unique choral program, one of a kind in the Webster County area”, Lopes said. “Singers involved in the program will not only have the opportunity to sing songs, but will also receive musical training ranging from creative games, playing instruments to body movements.”
Shelly Bottorff, Executive Director of the Fort Dodge Fine Arts Association, is the Assistant Director and Coach.
“The Fort Dodge Fine Arts Association is always looking for ways to expand its reach in the community of Fort Dodge and beyond.” said Bottorff. âWhat a great way to reach out to the young people in our community and help them gain life skills and experience that will go beyond their time as a student. “
Triton Kids partners with other local groups such as the Fort Dodge Area Symphony and the Iowa Central Triton Singers.
Auditions for Triton Kids will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Students can register for an audition spot and view the requirements at tritonkids.com.
Bottorff said, “We will check the vocal range and tone quality of the singer, the singers will participate in a pitch matching exercise, and the singers will perform” Happy Birthday “or” Mary Had a Little Lamb “”
A non-refundable registration fee of $ 25 will be due on the day of the auditions and applied to the tuition fees for the semester.
