Winners of the 13th Wedding Dress Design Contest Announced

The winners of the 13th Wedding Dress Design Contest, which was held within the framework of IF Wedding Fashion İzmir – Wedding Dress, Suit and Evening Dress and the theme of which was determined as “Modaverse” this year, were advertisement. Enes Yolcu, a student at Izmir University of Economics, came first, Arife Gedik, a student at Mimar Sinan University, came second, and İlayda Yasin, a student at Izmir University of Economics, came third.

IF Wedding Fashion İzmir – Wedding Dresses, Suits and Evening Dresses Fair; It is organized by İZFAŞ for the 16th time, hosted by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and in partnership with Aegean Clothing Manufacturers Association. Held for the 25th time as part of IF Wedding Fashion İzmir, which will continue until November 13 in Fuarizmir, the wedding dress design contest has attracted strong interest from young designers this year. Designers from 19 provinces applied with 170 designs to this year’s competition with the theme of “Modaverse”. Anıl Bayraktar, Arife Gedik, Buse Sinem Tekin, Ceylin Hurcanlar, Defne Kacar, Dide Aksamaoğlu, Ecenur Erdoğan, Enes Yolcu, Gizem Mendi, Gülsüm Güneş, İlayda Yasin, Nazmiye Gümüş, Oğuzhan Öndeyer, Sercan İzci and Serkan Çınar passed. The designers carried out the tailoring process under the mentorship of industry professionals at the designer workshops that are members of the Izmir Fashion Designers Association for about two months.

“The biggest in Europe”

The creations of the finalists were presented during the last fashion show. Speaking ahead of the latest fashion show, Deputy Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mustafa Özuslu said: “This fair, where fashion trends are determined, is also the biggest fair in Europe in his sector. The wedding dress design competition is also held for the 13th time. This competition plays a very important role in bringing young designers into the industry and showcasing their designs from Izmir to the world. As İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, we act knowing how the organization of the fair contributes to many sectors, and we do very valuable work with our fair organization company İZFAŞ. Besides IF Wedding Fashion İzmir, we also organize our Fashion Prime and Fashion Tech fairs. All these fairs complement each other and contribute to the sector.

Bringing new designers into the industry

Hayati Ertuğrul, President of the Association of Aegean Garment Manufacturers (EGSD) and Abdullah Salkım, President of the Association of Industrialists and Businessmen of Izmir Moda Tekstil (MTK) Confectioners Site, brought many new designers in the sector with the competition held since 2010, as well as fashion and trends in international markets. In the jury chaired by designer Övge Yıldızhan Subaşı; Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design, Istanbul Technical University Lecturer Dr. Belgin Görgün, Head of Department of Textile and Fashion Design at Marmara University, Professor Dr. Biret Tavman, Dean of University of Economics of Izmir, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Prof. Dr. Ender Bulgun, Designer Erol Albayrak, President of Izmir Fashion Designers Association Esin Özyiğit, Designer – Academician Fırat Neziroğlu, Faculty of Fine -Arts of Mimar Sinan University Head of Textile and Fashion Design Department Prof. Dr. Kemal Can, Owner of Mambo Couture Company – Designer Maher Ghalayini, Faculty of Fine Arts, Dokuz Eylül University Head of Fashion Clothing Design Department Nesrin Önlü, Designer Niyazi Erdoğan, Director of Maturation Institute from Izmir Şule Aydın, fashion writer – shop window designer Ümit Temurçin, owner of Seren Moda company – designer Yusuf Çamöz and Ege University Fashion and Design School director Prof. Dr. Ziynet Öndogan participated.

After the final fashion show, the contest winners were announced along with the jury’s evaluation. In the 13th International Wedding Dress Design Competition, the winner got the chance to hold a fashion show at IF Wedding Fashion İzmir, which will be held next year, while the top three runners-up received a total of 45,000TL. Izmir University of Economics student Enes Yolcu came first, followed by Mimar Sinan University student Arife Gedik and Izmir University of Economics student, İlayda Yasin, ranked third. The winners’ prizes were presented to the Deputy Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Mustafa Özuslu, Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. Tunç Soyer’s wife, Neptün Soyer, EGSD Board Chair Hayati Ertuğrul and MTK Board Chair Abdullah Salkım. Rönesans Agency Chairman Akif Öruk received a plaque from İZFAŞ Managing Director Canan Karaosmanoğlu for his contributions.

Inspired by the iris flower

Stating that she designed the wedding dress inspired by the iris flower, Enes Yolcu said, “In this work, I was inspired by the iris flower. The iris flower is a symbol of wisdom, purity, faith and hope. I reflected the iris flower on my wedding dress designs by sprouting it again within myself, nurturing it with my emotional shifts and transformations.

The most exciting was next year’s performance fashion show

Enes Yolcu, who said he was proud and happy to be ranked in the competition, said, “All the designs in the competition were very successful. The whole process was beautiful and exciting. This success has shown me that I can participate in this sector and what I can do. It gave me confidence to create good things for my own brand in the future. The most exciting thing is that with the first prize I won, I will be able to do my own fashion show on this catwalk next year. I think the whole competition process and the fashion show is a very good opportunity. I would like to thank all the organizations that offer this opportunity to us young people and support the emergence of new designs. I want to put my signature under a great performance with a theme that reflects me again next year,” he said.
